Collect log files for troubleshooting Windows activation problem

If a Windows desktop fails to activate, Service Desk may request information on the system to investigate the problem. Please prepare the log files msinfo32.log and activation.log as below and send to cchelp@ust.hk,

  1. Open an elevated command prompt by right-click on the Windows Start button and then choose Command Prompt (Admin). The title bar of an elevated command prompt window should contain the word "Administrator".
  2. Enter or copy and paste the following lines into the command prompt window,
    cd \ 
    start /wait msinfo32 /report msinfo32.log
    cscript c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /dlv >> activation.log
    cscript c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ato >> activation.log
    dir *.log
    
    
  3. Submit the 2 log files generated.
