How to join my Windows PC to the HKUST domain?

Note : only Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions and Windows 8 Pro, Enterprise are able to join a domain.
  1. Send an email to CCHELP@ust.hk with subject APPLY FOR ust.hk DOMAIN COMPUTER ACCOUNT and the following information :
    • ITSC assigned computer name of your target machine (e.g. CCZ001)
    • Your ITSC Network Account (e.g. CCTEST)
  2. After receiving our confirmation email (within 2 working days), join the computer to the domain by logon as local administrator.
  3. Either click on Start -> Control Panel -> System or Start -> Control Panel -> System and Security -> System.
  4. Click on the word Change settings.
  5. Ensure the Full computer name: field contains the ITSC assigned computer name (e.g. CCZ001). Change it if necessary.
  6. Click on the Network ID... button.
  7. Check the radio button besides the line This computer is part of a business network; I use it to connect to other computers at work and then click Next.
  8. Check the radio button besides the line My computer uses a network with a domain and then click Next.
  9. Type in your ITSC Network Account and password. Enter ust.hk in the box next to Domain name:. Click Next to proceed.
  10. Click Yes when prompting An account for this computer ("assigned_computer_name") has been found in the domain "HKUST". Would you like to use this?
  11. Check the radio button besides the line Add the following domain user account: and then click Next.
  12. Select the account type of the domain user and click Next to proceed. Each account type has different computer access privilege :
    • Standard account - with average computer control
    • Administrator - with full computer control
    • Other - with varied computer control
  13. Click on Finish, then OK and finally Restart Now to reboot the machine.
  14. After reboot, press Ctrl-Alt-Del on the keyboard.
  15. Type in your ITSC Network Account and password into the User name and the Password field respectively. Press enter to logon.
