Why does a Windows PC fail to activate even if connected to the campus network?

Windows PC installed from ITSC provided media and connected to the campus network other than ResNet should be activated automatically through the ITSC Windows Key Management Server. If Windows doesn't activate, it may be unable to find the server.

To help Windows to locate the key management server, append DNS suffix ust.hk to the network connection properties with steps below,
  1. Go to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Change adapter settings.
  2. Right-click the Local Area Coonnection icon and click on Properties.
  3. Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on Properties.
  4. Click Advanced...
  5. Click on the DNS tab.
  6. Click on radio button Append these DNS sufixes (in order):
  7. Click Add...
  8. Enter ust.hk and click Add...
  9. Click OK twice to complete the setup.
