Office 365 - How to copy files from your pilot account to OneDrive - HKUST?

This page is for staff pilot users of Office 365 having an @o365.ust.hk or an @connect.ust.hk account in the past and have a lot of files/folders in their pilot OneDrive for Business. If you only have a few files, simply download files to your local disk and then drag and drop files to OneDrive for Business.

By syncing your OneDrive for Business to your PC, documents that are currently stored only in your OneDrive for Business will also be available in your File Explorer on your PC. 

If you are already using the sync application to syncing files to your local disk, you may jump to step A12 and then Sync files to the OneDrive - HKUST. The instructions below are for Windows users who have Office 2013 SP1 or Office 2016 installed. For Mac users, similar migration steps are required but you will need OneDrive for Business Next Generation Sync Client on Mac OS X.

For users who are not using the Sync application, please follow the following steps:

  1. Sync files on OneDrive@o365.ust.hk to local hard disk
  2. Sync files with OneDrive - HKUST

 

A. Sync files on OneDrive@o365.ust.hk to local hard disk

  1. Make sure you are have the latest Windows Update and Microsoft Office 2013 SP1 or Microsoft Office 2016. Run Windows Update and obtain the latest version of Microsoft Office from download area if necessary.
  2. Logon to http://o365.ust.hk
  3. On the app launcher , select OneDrive.
  4. On your OneDrive for Business page, click Sync.

  5. At the prompt, click Sync Now to start the sync app.
  6. Click OK to launch Microsoft OneDrive for Business
  7. Select Sync Now in the app to start syncing. The app automatically fills out the name and web address of your OneDrive for Business library.
  8. If you see the Sign In page, type your pilot address xxxxx@o365.ust.hk and click Next
  9. Logon to o365.ust.hk again. In case you do not see the HKUST Sign In page, uncheck "Keep me signed in", type your password and click Sign in.
  10. You can click Show my files in the app to open the synced OneDrive for Business folder in File Explorer. The folder appears in your Windows Favorites as OneDrive for Business or OneDrive - HKUST. Remember the location of your sync files such as C:\Users\..... by writing it in a piece of paper.
  11. Wait until all files are synced to your local disk by putting your mouse over  on the task bar.
  12. After all the files are sync to your local hard disk, right click on the task bar and Select Stop syncing a folder…
  13. Click Stop syncing and the Yes to confirm, noted down the folder path for your future reference (e.g. sync to OneDrive again).
  14. Sign out your pilot account and close your web browser.

B. Sync files with OneDrive - HKUST

  1. Visit http://portal.office.com
  2. Type your HKUST email address and then press the tab button


  3. You will be redirected to HKUST ADFS login page, in which may be slightly different for users of Internet Explorer or other web browsers like Chrome or Firfox, etc.
  4. On the app launcher , select OneDrive.
  5. On your OneDrive for Business page, click Sync.
  6. At the prompt, click Sync Now to start the sync app.
  7. Click OK to launch Microsoft OneDrive for Business
  8. Select Sync Now in the app to start syncing. In some cases, there is error messages tell you the path is incorrect and you can simply click OK to ignore them.
  9. In the Sign in page, type your HKUST account xxxxx@ust.hk and click Next

  10. Select Work account when prompted (might more than one time)
  11. Sign into HKUST ADFS again with your password again
  12. The sync will start in a couple of minutes
  13. Click Show my files in the app to open the synced OneDrive for Business folder in File Explorer. The folder appears in your Windows Favorites as OneDrive for Business.
  14. Open another Windows Explorer or browse to previously stopped synced folder.
  15. Drag your file to the newly synced OneDrive for Business and they will be sync to the cloud.
